Velvet Vacation Vibes

Who says you can’t wear velvet in the heat? Most of the time we find ourselves reserving velvet clothing for those cozy holiday parties, but with the current reboot I’ve found there’s plenty of room for mixing this trend into our winter getaways. I’ll show you some ways to incorporate it into your outfits without losing the paradise flair. When the sun goes down and the ocean breeze comes out, slip into some of these velvet ensembles.

Black velvet jumpsuit

Mix and match your favorite bold accessories and shoes with this black velvet jumpsuit from Express. I got it for 40% off, but right now it’s on sale for 30% off if you hurry. It also comes in a “brandied peach” color if you’re feeling even bolder. The suede black shoes featured on the left are Michael Kors and are $70 (Last Act) right now at Macy’s!

Deep blue, off-the-shoulder top

This lush velvet piece is from White House Black Market and is the perfect off the shoulder top to take on your vacation. I like to mix it up with black accessories and the brown, beaded belt to give it a more tropical feel.

Sequin black velvet dress

This black velvet sequin dress from Forever 21 is great for a night out. Pair it with simple shoes and some fun silver jewelry and you’re good to go. The engraved necklace is from Jewlery Hills and is my wedding date in roman numerals (thanks to my best friend Michelle).  The earrings are actually vintage clip-ons from my Grandma. I love mixing in old pieces that have a timeless quality. The Tiffany’s bracelet is a classic staple for almost any outfit, casual or dressy.

Nude wrap dress

This beige wrap dress from Forever 21 is 3/4 sleeve and not too thick of a material to wear on a beach vacation. To mix it up, I like to pair pieces like this dress with bold colors such as the turquoise and brown necklace from Francesca’s. The earrings are from Lauren Conrad’s Kohl’s collection and tie in the gold accents. I also added in the colorful bracelet as a bold twist that pulls the colors together, yet adds another dimension to the outfit.

Black velvet mini skirt

This high-waist, black mini skirt from Express is so easy to pair with different tops and accessories. The skirt comes in light pink as well and petite sizes, which is great for short women like me. I paired it with a black sequin crop top from Forever 21, and gold accent jewelry.

Long-sleeve cover up

If you’re anything like me, I’m frozen as soon as we walk into a restaurant that’s blasting AC. A vintage cover-up like this long-sleeved, cropped one is great for bringing along to dinner and still having a gorgeous look to your outfit. And it’s more fun than a simple cardigan sweater. I’d pair it with a long necklace such as the one pictured from Urban Outfitters.

Pair your velvet pieces with bold accessories, jewelry or shoes such as these by Gianni Bini (Dillard’s).

So there you go loves! If you’re going away this holiday season somewhere tropical, don’t be afraid to mix velvet into your outfits. I hope this gave you a little inspiration to be bold and daring with your fashion. Also, don’t forget to check out packing tips and essentials before you go!

  1. I’m not a fan of velvet, but this post had opened my eyes. The black jumpsuit is perfect for New Year Eve’s! I also liked LC’s earrings, but I’m guilty of liking almost all her stuff.

    1. Thanks for the honest comment. New Year’s Eve sounds like a perfect time to wear the jumpsuit! I may have to consider that and taking it on vacation as well. Thanks for your input!

  2. These are really great ideas on how to incorporate your velvet pieces into all seasons. I have a few items that, like you said, I just store away until the holiday season! I’m excited to try some of these ideas, and possibly shop for that jumpsuit <3 !!
